Tonsillitis (Enlarged Tonsils)

The tonsils are lymph tissue located in the back of the throat.  Repeated sore throats, Strep throat, and chronic infections occur in both children and adults.  Enlargement of the tonsils can lead to snoring, sleep apnea, tonsil stones and bad breath (halitosis).  The adenoids are frequently enlarged in children with tonsil problems.

At Northwest ENT Surgery Center, a tonsillectomy is one of our most common procedures both for adults and children.  The tonsils (and adenoids) are like any other lymph node – removal has no effect on the immune system.
