Surgical removal of the thyroid gland as well as surrounding lymph nodes is a routine procedure for cancer of the thyroid gland. At Northwest ENT Surgery Center and Pediatric and Adult Surgery Center, this procedure is performed by placing an endoscope in a small incision. This allows for rapid and precise removal of the entire gland and surrounding lymph nodes with minimal pain or swelling.

Surgery takes approximately 1 hour, with patients ready to leave 3 hours after arrival.

After Surgery

Patients may resume all normal activities in 1 to 2 days, and there are no diet restrictions.

Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day after the drain is removed. A follow-up with a primary care physician or endocrinologist should be scheduled 2 to 4 weeks after surgery.
