Laryngoscopy with Biopsy

Biopsy or removal of abnormalities of the throat is done under brief general anesthesia using a small examining tube called a laryngoscope.   This procedure is also known as a direct laryngoscopy. A micro-laryngoscopy is when a microscope is used through the laryngoscope.  There are no external incisions with this procedure.

Surgery takes approximately 15 minutes, with most patients ready to leave 1-2 hours after arrival.

After Surgery

Recovery is quick with minimal to no pain. Diet can be advanced to normal as soon as possible. Voice rest is usually recommended for 24 hours.

Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day. No follow-up is necessary unless otherwise recommended. Routine biopsy results are usually available 5 business days after the procedure.
