Esophagoscopy

Examination and biopsy of the esophagus is done under brief general anesthesia using a small examining tube called an esophagoscope.   The examining tube is passed through the mouth into the esophagus. This procedure takes approximately 15 minutes, with most patients ready to leave 1-2 hours after arrival.

After Surgery

Recovery is quick with minimal to no pain. Diet can be advanced to normal as soon as possible.

Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day. No follow-up is necessary unless otherwise recommended. Routine biopsy results are usually available 5 business days after the procedure.
