Submandibular Gland Excision

The submandibular gland excision takes approximately an hour and a half to complete, and patients can expect to leave four hours after arriving. A small drain is placed under the skin by the incision and is removed the following morning.

After Surgery

With this procedure, patients can expect some mild discomfort which should subside over the days following the operation. Patients resume their normal activities in as little as one or two days, and there are no dietary restrictions necessary with a submandibular gland excision. Saliva production should not be affected.

All sutures used in the procedure are absorbable, meaning they are naturally biodegradable in the body and do not require a follow up for removal. Out of town patients are cleared for travel the day following the removal of the drain, and no follow up is necessary unless otherwise instructed.
